Getting from Tofino to Ucluelet
Drive south on the Pacific Rim Highway through the Long Beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and follow the signs for Ucluelet at the Tofino–Ucluelet junction. The District of Ucluelet puts the Lighthouse Loop trailhead 43 km from downtown Tofino, so allow about 45 minutes each way. Without a car, West Coast Transit connects the two towns; see getting around.
Walk the Lighthouse Loop
The Wild Pacific Trail’s Lighthouse Loop is about 2.6 km and starts from the parking lot on Coast Guard Road, about 2 km from downtown Ucluelet. It passes Amphitrite Point Lighthouse and follows the rocky shoreline, with a few steep sections; accessible parking is at the lighthouse. Stay on the trail and well back from the edge when the surf is big.
More time in Ucluelet
Add more of the Wild Pacific Trail if you want a longer walk, browse the harbour and eat lunch in town. The Ucluelet Aquarium is a catch-and-release aquarium that opens seasonally, usually from spring to late fall, so check its dates. In March, the Pacific Rim Whale Festival runs events in both Ucluelet and Tofino.
Stop in the national park on the way
On the way back, stop at Long Beach, the Kwisitis Visitor Centre at Wickaninnish Beach or a short rainforest trail. Parks Canada admission or a Beach Walk pass is required to park in the park. Add this day to our three-day itinerary if you have a fourth day.
