Rainforest walks in Pacific Rim
Pacific Rim’s Rainforest Trails are an introduction to the coastal forest. Boardwalks can be slippery and include stairs, so a short distance does not mean an accessible or effortless route. Check Parks Canada’s current trail guidance before choosing a loop. Pair a walk with Long Beach rather than driving between too many stops.
Tonquin Trail near town
Tonquin Beach offers a beach outing near town, with forest paths, boardwalk and stairs on the approaches. Allow enough daylight for the return through the trees. For access details, follow the District’s beach guidance rather than a map pin alone.
A longer day on the path
The ʔapsčiik t̓ašii multi-use pathway offers a longer walking or cycling option through the Long Beach Unit. Choose a turnaround point and realistic return distance. This is a shared route, so leave room for other users and follow posted directions.
Choose a walk you can finish
Check closures and weather before leaving. Wear footwear with grip, carry a warm layer, and turn back when conditions or daylight change. A short forest visit can be better than completing a route in heavy rain or wind. Read weather and conditions before your outing.
A route length is only the beginning
Parks Canada lists the ʔapsčiik t̓ašii pathway as 25 kilometres one way. You do not need to complete it: pick a short segment with a clear return. Its paved surface still includes hills, and winter conditions can make travel unsuitable. Check the current park guidance rather than treating the whole route as an easy year-round outing.
